Sushila Karki to Become Interim Prime Minister; Parliament to Be Dissolved

TSCUpdate T

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki will take oath as the head of the interim government tonight at 9 PM, following an agreement reached at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas. According to Presidential Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel, the new cabinet will hold its first meeting right after the oath ceremony. The meeting will decide to dissolve the House of Representatives and send the recommendation to the President. “The President will approve the dissolution once the cabinet recommends it,” Pokharel said. This decision was made in line with the demands of Gen-Z youths, who have been protesting for parliament to be dissolved and Karki to be appointed Prime Minister.

Her appointment had been delayed earlier because of disagreements between President Ram Chandra Paudel and the Gen-Z youths over whose recommendation should be used to dissolve parliament.
