Cinema and Faith: My Lifelong Path – Jharana Thapa

Jharana Thapa (Nepalese film actress, film producer and film director) | At midnight, as I write this today, I am fortunate to be awake while many are still asleep. When a person is in extreme pain and disappointment, sleep eludes them, which I can feel today. I pray that those who cannot sleep like me find solace. Please do not consider me like those who can’t bring you sleep.

I have devoted three decades of my life continuously to the field of cinema. My dear audience, it’s your love that has kept me on the silver screen. Day and night, whether there are tears or laughter, I tirelessly work to entertain you. It is the love and support of all Nepali viewers that has led me to act and direct. Wherever I am, whatever I am, I owe it to the blessings of the Nepali people and the Nepali heart. It is this inspiration that drives me to continue working in the world of cinema until my last breath, even though there is nothing beyond it.

I am continuously involved in cinema, and as a director, I have your love and affection. In this process, we have tried to create a film that addresses some harsh realities of society. We have placed unwavering faith in Lord Krishna’s divine scripture, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, at the center of our film, which we have titled “Ek Bhagavad Gita.” My life’s work has never been limited to just entertainment; it has always aimed to touch upon the nation, our history, geographical vastness, cultural diversity, religious faith, and tolerance. We have never shied away from raising questions and engaging in discussions. We have studied the essence of all stories before selecting them for our films. We have presented the script of our film to the censor board for approval. We have requested you to watch the film without prejudice before criticizing it.

Dear audience, my life revolves around the faith in Lord Krishna and the inspiration from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. I am deeply committed to religious faith and tolerance, and I have studied all aspects of the story while making the film. We have repeatedly narrated the script of our film and explained that there is no disrespect to Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in any way. We have never sought censor board approval in vain. We have invested all our resources, dreams, and life’s work into making a film that we believe in. If our film fails to meet your expectations, it is a pain that cannot be expressed in words.

We don’t know if our film will reach your eyes or not. We don’t know if it will be allowed to be screened. The situation is such that our film may not see the light of day, and we may not survive this ordeal. It is uncertain whether our film will ever be seen by your eyes. We have no idea if our effort to present the story of this waterfall named “Dyo Thapa,” saturated with the oil of your love, will ever succeed. Even when speaking the truth, even when saying, “I am right,” when providing all the evidence, if no one listens, in the end, the decision will be in the hands of the Almighty, won’t it?

I have left my decision in the hands of my Lord.

Dear audience!!! Lord Shri Krishna!! Hare Krishna!!!
